The Polish Academy of Gastronomy was founded in 2006 in Warsaw, as a branch of the International Academy of Gastronomy. The founding president as well as current president of the Polish Academy of Gastronomy is Maciej Dobrzyniecki, performing also the duties of the Member of the Board of International Academy of Gastronomy and Secretary General of the European Academy of Gastronomy.

Polish Academy as one of the national academies of the AIG operates in order to fulfil the common goals of all the AIG members: promotion of healthy and high quality gastronomy, preservation of the heritage of local cuisine, encouraging the artisan producers, supporting production of authentic products or promotion of well-balanced diet and healthy culinary habits. Polish Academy also supports scientists and writers in their research on Polish gastronomy, as well as encourages sommeliers in their development. In the last few years it became even more important for the Polish Academy to highlight the economic importance of gastronomy in terms of development of the national tourism, as the gastronomic tourism became a fashionable type of travelling all around the world.

Polish Academy of Gastronomy is acting on the basis of six operational branches.

Government cooperation

First of them is connected to the governmental cooperation. In February 2014 Polish Academy of Gastronomy was distinguished for the abovementioned actions by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, being awarder with the official patronage of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage. Polish Academy also regularly cooperates with Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development as well as with Ministry of Sport and Tourism. President Dobrzyniecki is an active member of the Polish Council of Tourism by the Minister of Sport and Tourism.

Another important activity of the Polish Academy is negotiating, organizing and financing the international internships for the professional Polish chefs in order to master their skills in the world’s best restaurants. Until today the Academy has enabled few week internships for the Polish talented chefs in: El Celler de Can Roca (ES) Eleven Madison Park (US), Osteria Francescana (IT),  Arzak (ES), Pavillon Ledoyen (FR) and few others.

International and national prizes

Each year Polish Academy awards prizes to Polish individuals who distinguish themselves in a specific country at a national level. For the last few years Polish Academy ceaselessly nominates laureates in all of the AIG Prix categories: Prix au Chef de L’Avenir, Prix au Chef Patissier, Prix au Sommelier, Prix de la Literature Gastronomique and Prix Multimedia, searching for the best and most talented chefs, sommeliers, authors and media in Poland.

What is more since 2016 Polish Academy of Gastronomy decided to create a national gastronomy prize called Ars Coquinaria, granted in three categories: The Master of Masters (for the mentors of whole generations of chefs or sommeliers), The Friend in Taste (for individuals who uniquely support the goals of the Academy) and The Polish Product (for extraordinary Polish products, appreciated on foreign markets and favoured  by the best Polish chefs).

The official awarding gala is organized customarily each year in March in Warsaw. Among the most notable guests usually invited to the ceremony one should mention Polish government representatives, well known international chefs, laureates from the previous years, best Polish chefs, members of the Academy and gastronomic media. The first part of the evening starts with the official Prix and Ars Coquinaria ceremony, followed by a dinner with a tasting menu prepared by the Chef de L’Avenir of the year.
